Rated Torque
The maximum continuously transmissible torque of a machine or drive component under rated conditions — the most important selection parameter for motors, gearboxes, and couplings.
Definition
| Term | Meaning | Typical |
|---|---|---|
| Rated Torque M_N | Continuously transmissible | Base = 1.0 × M_N |
| Peak Torque | Permissible short-term | 2.0–3.0 × M_N |
| Breakdown Torque | Unstable limit | 2.0–3.0 × M_N |
Practical Relevance
When sizing a drive unit, the rated torque of the selected component must always cover at least the required load torque plus an operating factor (S_B = 1.5–2.5). This safety factor accounts for startup shocks, load fluctuations, and aging. TEA supports the design and selection of suitable gearboxes.
