What went wrong

While reviewing our sizing calculators, we noticed that three rules recommended planetary gearboxes — a design we no longer carry. In two of the three cases the suggestion even came first.

Anyone following it ended up with an enquiry we could not serve as specified. That is frustrating for you and for us.

Now the trade-off comes with it

The recommendations now name only series from our own range — together with the trade-off that comes with them. An example: worm gearboxes carry up to 1,958 Nm (I/MI series) and up to 4,368 Nm in the high-performance series but cost efficiency and bring self-locking. Spiral bevel gearboxes of the BG series reach 94–97 % in the steps 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1 and can be built coaxially.

Which of the two fits depends on your application — which is why both are shown, rather than just one.

Borderline cases are now spelled out

There was always a suggestion — every calculator has a fallback recommendation so that nobody faces an empty space. What was missing was the note explaining why the suggested series gets tight in a particular case.

We now say so. At a required torque of 80 Nm, the recommendation for our special couplings appears together with a note that the PMKC series transmits up to 20 Nm at a 1 mm air gap — and that anything beyond needs a larger series. That lets you decide instead of guessing, and shows when an enquiry is the better route.
