Synchronous (Permanent-Magnet) Coupling

The permanent-magnet coupling — also called a synchronous coupling — carries permanent magnets on both sides that couple pole to pole. It transmits torque synchronously and without slip until the pull-out torque is exceeded.

Operating Principle and Overload Behaviour

Inner and outer rotor run at exactly the same speed (synchronously). The transmittable torque rises with load up to the maximum pull-out torque; once this is exceeded, the magnetic coupling breaks and the coupling slips abruptly. It thus also acts as overload protection. The transmittable torque depends strongly on the air gap — the smaller the gap, the higher the torque.
